EBU Ranked Masters Pairs

Sunday, 01 March 2020 by Barrie Partridge

The seven Ranked Masters Pairs events took place over the weekend. At the central venue of Stratford-upon-Avon, Sandy Davies and Tom Gisborne finished 4th out of 12 in the top event, the Premier Grand Masters Pairs, yet will have been disappointed after leading the field by 50 IMPs at the end of the Saturday. Their final score of +30 IMPs compares with their score three years ago of +44 IMPs when they won this event.

Meanwhile on the Sunday, 9 pairs competed for the Masters Pairs at the club, one of about 14 venues across England. The overall field of 227 pairs was nearly three times as many as that of all the other six events together, and in overall 8th place (currently subject to corrections) was Martin Pierce and Vanessa Rushden, and in 9th place, Steve Willis and Mick Lindley.

Sadly, the club heat had fewer than half the 20 pairs we had last year. Then we had 10 pairs from other clubs in the region. This time just two pairs from elsewhere.
