Peter Camm remembered

I can't recall how Peter and I started playing together, I think it was via a mutual friend, Harry Peck, at the Beauchief club, which I helped to run then. Nor can I recall the year, but I suspect it's well over 20 years ago. We struck a friendly partnership and spent many hours exploring different systems and gadgets, some of which Peter invented or developed. He was happy to invest a lot of effort learning clever improvements, and we adopted many of Ron Klinger's ideas, including ditching the Stayman convention!  Subsequently we played at Sheffield BC with some success in competitions, local, Yorkshire and Northern leagues. Best of all, he was forgiving of my regular mistakes!

Originally from Wrexham, Peter took a keen interest in their football club, alongside a more recent following of some Manchester club. After a career with Stanley Tools, he took a surprising leap into hospitality by buying a bistro in Glossop, which both interfered with his bridge and family life, and entailed some hairy winter crossings of the Snake pass. He served as Membership Secretary on the Bridge Club's committee, managing the move to Pianola, the production of a members' directory and exploring the GDPR labyrinth.

Alongside his SBC commitments he continued to play, with Jerry Peel, at Beauchief BC and enjoyed regular games of golf. He and Anne moved from Nether Edge to Chesterfield a few years ago and recently became grandparents for the first time. My thoughts are with Anne and their children.
