Yorkshire Leagues - The season ends!

Monday, 05 March 2018 by Barrie Partridge

Of 43 matches due yesterday (Sunday 4 March), 32 were played including all eight Sheffield matches, so well done to everyone on getting out and about yesterday.

The final league tables can be found on the YCBA website.

A needed a big win which didn’t happen so they come second in the League with Leeds winning for the first time in my memory.

B got a good win and finished by dominating Division 2 with 97 VP so will be re-joining A in Division 1.

D needed a big win to stand any chance of avoiding relegation, but a small loss has sealed their fate and they will be re-joining C in Div 3 next season. Nevertheless one win and three draws in the seven matches wasn’t at all bad.

C, E and F all had good wins and each finished right in the middle of Divisions 3, 4 and 5 respectively.

G had a narrow defeat and will probably come second equal depending on a match that was postponed. Unfortunately they would lose out on promotion because of losing a tie-split. (If York D get precisely 7 VP in their last match, there would be an interesting three way tie split for first place and for promotion!)

H have (and will retain when all the matches are complete) the highest VP total of any team in the League and, with winning Division 10, will be promoted next season.

Despite some disappointments, it’s been a good season overall for Team Sheffield!
