The Northern Bridge League is a teams-of-eight competition between the County Bridge Associations of Northern England and North Wales. The League is divided into three Divisions:
There are four all-play-all events each year. Full results for the season are here.
In the A division, Yorkshire B finished strongly but failed to prevent Manchester from extending their lead in the final match and being crowned champions. Contributing over the season to this creditable second place were Keith Cornish/David Waxman, Martin White/Pete Waterman and Bazil Caygill/Matthew Kiggins. (Various Sheffield pairs played for Yorkshire A, but they finished in a disappointing fourth place. They shall not be named and shamed.) * See below *
In the B division, Yorkshire struggled all season and finished down in fifth place.
Stars of the show, however, were Yorkshire South-East in the C division who - despite finishing second in their final fixture - did enough to grab first place overall. "Yorkshire South-East" is mostly synonymous with "Sheffield" and 12 of the 16 pairs who represented the team came from this club. Congratulations to
who all chipped in to make this victory possible.
* Update *
It has been pointed out that there were in fact several strong performances within the Yorkshire A team from Sheffield players. Indeed one player finished 4th, 2nd and 2nd in the cross-IMPing. We are happy to make this correction.
