The Tipple-Two System

by Ian Grant

A bidding system for that festive occasion.

At the start of the session: Following the opening of the second bottle of wine:
Opening Bid Responses
INT 12-14
no singleton
Stayman

non-promissory

Red suit transfers
1S 5+ cards
1H 5+cards
1D 3+ cards
(better minor)

1C

Opening Bid Responses
INT variable, very variable Stayman

non-promissory, could have anything

Bleak take-outs where opener forgets to complete the transfer
1S a hand containing at least five black cards most of which appear to be spades
1H a psyche, or maybe it just looks like one
1D I think I should open but I'm not really sure
1C prepared club; what you use to put partner out of his misery

2NT 20-22 balanced

Puppett Stayman

Red-suit transfers

Weak two’s in three suits Ogust
2C Strong, forcing 2D relay
2NT any hand of about 18+ points containing no obvious void Muppett Stayman
Dead Suit Transfers
methods by which partner gets the opener to fail to make the final contract.
Bleak two’s in five suits Disgust a request to clarify the hand; usually translated as ‘make some other random bid partner’.
2C  I've run out of fingers... Your guess is as good as mine.

Rainbow Gerber Refer to www.poorbridge.com for a full explanation
Other Conventions Splinters corks don’t have them
Fourth-suit forcing (hopefully)
Defence to 1NT Black-Hole Astro A hand containing 9 cards in two suits one of which might have been mentioned.

otherwise: “I’m doing my best”
Count on lead of King Card played quickly: attitude signal given by mistake
otherwise: “I started with 13 cards”.
