The Butler Pairs Tournament is organised by Ian Johns and Barrie Partridge and is intended for experienced players. It is anticipated that some of the club's strongest pairs will take part so this is an opportunity to test your skills against theirs. Please sign-up, as pairs, by the deadline date shown; however you do not need to play with the same partner each time. There will not be a 'standby' player.
Scoring will by Butler IMPS; each pair being assigned an IMPS score when their result is compared against the average for the field. Note that the best and worst scores in the field are excluded from the average calculation to avoid the result being skewed by something wacky!
A trophy will be presented to the most successful partnership.
The tournament will be divided into A and B flights with promotion/relegation between them. After each event the top two pairs in flight B will be promoted to flight A with the bottom two pairs in flight A being relegated. The placing of pairs in flights for the first event will be decided by taking into account which team the players compete for in the Inter-City leagues.
The flighting of the event facilitates 'all-play-all' movements and ensures the quality of the field in the A-flight. Note that performance in the A-flight will be taken into consideration when the Sheffield A and B teams are selected for next year's Inter-City Leagues.
